A Guide To The Lord’s Day Worship
This guide summarizes the rationale for the approach and the elements of the Lord’s Day worship at New Life Burbank. It has been written with the hopes that those who join us each Sunday will find their greatest joy and deepest delight in worshipping the risen and living Savior.
Introduction
At New Life Burbank, we have a very high view of the Lord’s Day worship. God created man to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever, and we believe that this is done in a very special way at each Sunday worship service. We acknowledge that the Lord should be glorified every day and in every thing. At the same time, the strength of our individual devotion flows from the corporate life that we share in Christ, especially as we worship together as a church on the day that the Lord has set apart. Therefore, our goal is to worship the living God on the Lord’s Day in a manner that demonstrates that it is the most important and central activity that we do as individuals and as a church.
We make no claims on having exclusive knowledge about the subject of worship, nor do we presume that our “worship style” is the only correct way. There are many churches that honor the Lord with sincere and biblical worship that look and feel different from ours. But we do humbly and sincerely believe that the way that we worship is among one of the ways that is acceptable and pleasing to the Lord.
We affirm that we are not in the “business” of entertaining an audience; rather, we are worshipping our Creator and Redeemer, for the edification and joy of God’s people. For this reason, every part and portion of our Lord’s Day worship have been carefully thought through and prayed about. It is our earnest desire to cultivate reverence, joy, and intimacy with God in the hearts of those who worship.
